The 100 Little Quilts Project....

And so begins the journey to create 100 little quilts and 100 little dresses....why 100 and why little quilts and dresses? Well, 100 seems like a nice lofty goal to reach and I do love a challenge. Why little quilts? Well seeing that I currently reside in Southern California and already possess a huge stack of quilts and that lately I seem to have the attention span of a flea , it seemed the right thing to do. I have always been captivated by miniatures and the Civil War era. I currently sew little quilts and dresses to fit the doll named Hitty, who is based on the children's book character. She stands approximately 6" tall and is carved of wood. I have collected many artist's versions.

As you will soon see,I have a very distinct style. I love my civil war and 1930s reproduction fabrics . I favor scrappy looks with an antique feel to them. I have a little iron bed that started me thinking about little quilts. My plan is to create the little quilts and dresses and journal them here. I will post some quilt-alongs ,and perhaps someday patterns which will hopefully entice you to join me in this journey. Little quilts are immensely satisfying and therapeutic to make ,quick to finish, and use much less fabric to complete. What to do with them? The possibilities are endless: wallhangings, framed works of art, doll quilts, placemats, potholders, tablerunners, candlemats, pet quilts, couch and chair covers, lapquilts ,etc. My quilts typically finish at around an 8" square, which is just right for Hitty. I make them in exactly the same manner as I make the quilts I put on my bed.

Most of my quilts and dresses make their way to Ebay.....I sell under  "tlhcrawford" if you are interested.

Though I take a break here and there when life gets in the way, I always come back to sewing these little quilts and dresses. Maybe its the fabric(ok I may hoard fabric) , maybe its the therapeutic nature of creating, maybe its the stack of little works of art....my Featherweight and I enjoy every moment in the sewing room together.
